About Robert Rolfe

Three DrunksHello!  My name is Robert Rolfe, the guy on the right, and I am head of the I.T. department at General Pacific, Inc.  I joined the GenPac team in Jan of 2001 and since then have been working with the employees there to embrace technology and what it has to offer.

In April of 2001 the GenPac management and I decided to start We Host Webpages, now Weberz Hosting, to offer quality website hosting to the masses as well as help financially support the I.T. department of GP.

Before working at GP I had a number of other jobs, some great & some not so much, including:

  • MPH Computing / Cyber Exchange: A local computer service and repair store.  This was a great job.
  • Gas Station Attendant: Not so much fun.
  • VCR Repair: Those are the machines before DVD players
  • Video Store Clerk: Had two jobs doing this.. That was fun.
  • Bingo Hall: I don’t recommend this line of work.

Beyond that I currently, and probably always will, reside in Gresham, Oregon just outside of Portland.  I like it here very much as you are only a few hours away from anything you could want to do, and I enjoy the climate/surroundings.

As far as technical stuff goes, I have been playing with computers & the internet since I was 13 years old.  The idea of a giant world of unlimited information (true and false) that is completely run by computers still fascinates me every day.  I spend the majority of my time on the computer learning about new internet technologies/tips/tricks etc that can be applied in a good business fashion as well as doing computer programming.

I can program computers and websites in a number of different languages including:

  • Visual Basic
  • Pascal (Yes, I really said Pascal!)
  • C++ (Very Little)
  • PHP
  • Java
  • ASP
  • ASP.net
  • Bash/Shell Scripting

I am also very familiar with the databases and other technologies that go along with those languages/interpreters.  If you were to ask my Wife, and probably my co-workers, you would probably be told I am a work-a-holic and spend all my time on these blasted machines.  For the most part this is true.

When I am not computing, I enjoy Movies (DVD’s maybe a little too much), Fishing, Camping, Puzzles, hanging out and just generally having a good time.

The work on this website is generally my ramblings about whatever given topic I feel like writing about and hopefully you will get something out of it.  I always suggest that new readers visit my disclaimer page before proceeding to any other page on the site.
